as for the apple, can lightly lemoned juice do better than salt?

I think it has the same effect. i was taught the salt version by one of my japanese coworkers. i complained to her one time that my apples always browned and tasted bad and she told me to use just a little salt in water and soak my apples in it for a good 5 minutes or so. Lemon juice as stuff in it that is also acidic so it might very well help keep apples fresh, too.
